Why API 5L PSL2 L360NS (X52) Was Chosen for the Mexican Market

Mexico’s oil and gas sectors, alongside its expanding industrial gas pipeline networks, frequently transport fluids containing hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$). This requires specialized, high-performance steel.

1. The Importance of PSL2 and Sour Service (“N” & “S” Designation)

PSL2 Requirements: Unlike standard PSL1 pipes, API 5L PSL2 pipes demand mandatory impact toughness testing (Charpy V-notch), strict chemical composition limits, and non-destructive inspection (NDT).

L360NS (X52NS) Performance: The suffix “N” indicates normalized heat treatment, which refines the grain structure of the steel. The “S” denotes Sour Service compliance. This grade is specifically engineered to resist HIC (Hydrogen-Induced Cracking) and SSCC (Sulfide Stress Corrosion Cracking), making it exceptionally safe for sour environments typical in Mexican oil fields and refineries.
