SA-106Gr.C is a seamless steel pipe under the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard. This steel pipe is mainly used for pressure-bearing parts in high-temperature environments. Its chemical composition includes elements such as carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon. The carbon content is generally between 0.27%-0.33%, the manganese content is approximately 0.87%-1.13%, and the silicon content is 0.10%-0.30%. The content of phosphorus and sulfur is strictly limited, phosphorus does not exceed 0.035%, and sulfur does not exceed 0.035%. Appropriate carbon and manganese content gives the steel pipe good strength, and silicon helps to improve the deoxidation ability and strength of the steel.
First, the mechanical properties of SA-106Gr.C seamless steel pipe
Tensile strength: The tensile strength of SA-106Gr.C seamless steel pipe is usually between 483-648MPa. This strength level enables it to withstand high axial tension. For example, in high-temperature and high-pressure equipment such as boilers and heat exchangers, when the internal medium pressure generates tensile force, the steel pipe can effectively resist this tension and prevent rupture.
Yield strength: The yield strength is not less than 276MPa. The yield strength is the stress when the material begins to produce obvious plastic deformation. This property ensures that the steel pipe will not easily undergo irreversible deformation after being subjected to a certain pressure. It is essential to maintain the normal shape and function of the pipeline, especially in high-temperature and high-pressure working environments. Preventing pipeline deformation is one of the key factors for the safe operation of equipment.
Elongation: The elongation is not less than 22%. The elongation reflects the toughness of the material. The appropriate elongation allows the steel pipe to produce a certain degree of deformation without breaking when subjected to a certain degree of external force. This is very important when dealing with complex working conditions such as thermal stress. During the start-up, shutdown, or change of working conditions of the equipment, the pipeline will produce thermal stress due to temperature changes. Sufficient elongation can effectively adapt to this stress change without damage.
Second, the heat treatment process and organizational properties of SA-106Gr.C seamless steel pipe
This type of steel pipe usually requires appropriate heat treatment to optimize its performance. Normalizing treatment is generally used, and the normalizing temperature is usually between 870-940℃. Normalizing can refine the grains, improve the strength and toughness of the steel, and enable the steel pipe to obtain good comprehensive mechanical properties. After normalizing treatment, the metallographic structure of the steel pipe is mainly pearlite and ferrite. This organizational morphology helps the steel pipe maintain stable performance under high temperature environment.
Third, the manufacturing process characteristics of SA-106Gr.C seamless steel pipe
Hot rolling process: In the manufacturing process, hot rolling is a common process. After the steel billet is heated to a suitable temperature, the steel billet is gradually turned into a seamless steel pipe through the rolling action of the rolling roller. The hot rolling process has high production efficiency and can ensure the basic mechanical properties of the steel pipe, but the dimensional accuracy is relatively low. However, through the subsequent finishing process, the dimensional accuracy of the steel pipe can meet the standard requirements.
Cold drawing process (optional): For some occasions with higher requirements for dimensional accuracy, the cold drawing process can also be used. Cold drawing is to draw the steel pipe at room temperature and use the die to make the steel pipe reach a more precise size and good surface quality. However, the cold drawing process has low production efficiency and relatively high cost.
Fourth, the temperature resistance and application field of SA-106Gr.C seamless steel pipe
Temperature resistance: SA-106Gr.C seamless steel pipe has good high temperature resistance and can work stably for a long time in high temperature environments. The temperature range it can withstand is generally between -29℃-427℃. In this temperature range, the mechanical properties and chemical stability of the steel pipe can be maintained at a good level, meeting the needs of many high-temperature equipment.
Application field: In the local industry in Wuxi, this steel pipe is mainly used in petrochemical, electric power, boiler, and other industries. In the petrochemical industry, it is used to transport high-temperature and high-pressure petroleum products, chemical raw materials steam, and other media; in the power industry, it is used to make superheater tubes, reheater tubes, and other components of boilers, and withstand the effect of high-temperature steam; in the boiler industry, as the main pressure-bearing pipeline, ensure the safe operation of the boiler.
